How To Optimize Your Tweets To Increase Engagement

How to get more people to engage with your Tweets

There are well over 200 million Tweets per day.

Just imagine, if we always say you have a split second to convince a visitor to your site to stay a little longer, what do you need to do to get your Tweet noticed and get people to click or perform some type of engagement with it?

We are clearly in an attention economy, we are no longer fighting for attention with our direct competitors but with just any other kind of content. My Tweet about social media is next to a Tweet about Lifestyle Design and my prospect can go either way depending in too many variables.

Content can be king only if it’s noticed. We are not going to argue that your focus needs to be on producing remarkable content and products, if you do that the rest of the pieces will eventually fall in the right places, but if today you are fighting for that attention perhaps you could start with looking at optimizing your outgoing messages on social media to reach their full potential.

Here is an infographic by Fuse Works Studios that shows you a few ways Tweets get more action.

Many thanks This article was very useful, particularly the info about the times of day to tweet and the days to tweet.  Also the info about not using more than 2 hashtags. Where do Fuseworks get their stats from?

I have a problem with this…  Although, undeniably “Plz RT” messages do work in terms of spreading a message, I’d have some questions about how useful those RT’s were.  They generally don’t require any engagement – it’s a simple click, and to be honest, I personally now ignore any message that begs for a RT… it seems desperate, and not at all social.

Thanks Francisco this article was very helpful on what days and times I should tweet. Now, as a blogger myself, it depends on what you are tweeting and who you want to see it. Remember that there are different time zones and this does make a difference on who is on twitter. The time frame will not reach Internation Twitterers. This is great for the US.

I agree Claire. Perhaps a call-to-arms message – something like ‘Send out a retweet if you’re rooting for Team GB in the #olympics’ – makes for a more useful type of engagement?

    Hey Claire,

Agreed. I also have some issues asking for an RT, to be honest I feel uncomfortable doing so and I rather not get those extra RTs, I guess it’s the same reason I don’t use red or highlighted text on sales pages or I don’t run pop up opt-in boxes on my blog. The thought behind it is that I don’t want to gain a couple of extra sales because I used red text or I got an extra couple of RT because I asked, I want people to do business with me, buy my product or RT/share my content because it is of value for them or because we are a good fit.I believe that is how you build a healthy business. Thanks for your comment.

Got to disagree with some of the others here…I think the point about asking followers to RT is the most important one here. And that’s not just related to Twitter – you ALWAYS have to use the call to action. It only comes across as sleazy or over promotional if you don’t accompany it with solid content.

Wow, what a load of shite. In 12 months, will there be an infographic stating that only 1% of people ask for a ReTweet twice? ….. “Hi, hope you’re enjoying your social media but I’m too cheap and lazy to do real marketing, mind if I hijack your conversation and followers and get you to bore them about my overpriced running shoes…? Oh, please RT this. Pls RT. Now. RT Now.”

Used properly these tips are shown to work. How we choose to use and their effectiveness is on us and not the tips. A new follower sent me a music track and asked me to listen and retweet, I did both.

Thanks so much for this twitter course I agree call to action to re tweet is more likely to spur you on to re tweet. Any material I can read on how to utilize hash tags I am still trying to understand them.

Very useful infographic, but I always recommend make some research and test any hypothesis, because it could be different according your country and culture.
For example in Chile (according to my experience and research), best days are thursday and friday from 9.00 to 10.30 PM.
    Regards !

yeah I pretty much agree with Pittsburgh SEO. Why should we exclude calls of action from Twitter? Do you hate birds or something?

I’ve always felt like those pls RT messages seem kind of hungry and desperate…not sure. Good article though.
